The Experience

Every wedding cake I create is bespoke to you and your requirements, from the number of tiers, to the mouth-watering flavours, to the design and decoration. I work hard to make sure that The Honey Bee Wedding Cake Company experience is a flexible, friendly and fuss-free one for you. Here’s a look behind the scenes at how we’ll go from initial enquiry to finished cake:

Step 1

Get in touch

Contact me to start the delicious ball rolling. You can send me an email, or use my contact form. First things first, we’ll make sure your wedding date is available. If it is, I’ll send you the important questions to give me an idea of the scope, size, location and style of your wedding, and the sort of cake you might require. Tell me the sort of budget you have to work with, your preferred number of tiers, and any design non-negotiables that you know you want to have (sugar flowers, edible gold leaf, particular flavours etc).

I’ll put together an estimated quote based on the information you’ve given me.

Step 2

secure your date

If you’d like to go ahead with the creation of your deliciously stylish wedding cake, a booking fee of £200 is required in order to secure your wedding date in my diary. For design led, fondant cakes, the next step is to arrange an in-person consultation, where we can discuss your design and flavour combinations in more detail.

If you’re dreaming in buttercream and looking for a contemporary naked or semi-naked cake, it’s time to skip straight to the delicious task of choosing your flavours. You’ll receive a taster box in the post to help you make your decision, an email consultation to discuss design, and then it’s time to head to step 4: The Final Touches.

(If you’re not ready to book and would like to taste some samples before you decide, a sample box costs £35, and is redeemable against the cost of your cake should you go ahead. Your samples can be collected from my Epping kitchen, or can be posted to you for an extra non-refundable fee of £12.)

Step 3

imagination station

Time for us to sit down and get planning your wedding cake! I hold consultation days at my home in Epping, and will send you a selection of time slots to choose from, as well as a questionnaire to fill in, giving me a more detailed idea of the colours, styles and design flourishes that you’re particularly drawn to.

As well as a selection of delicious cake to try, I’ll put together a mood board of suggestions and possibilities based on your questionnaire responses. We’ll go through this together, refining the design. I will advise you on flavour combinations, and will suggest some contemporary decorative techniques that will best suit the cake you’re dreaming of. We can also discuss options for custom biscuit favours, if this is something that you’re interested in. After your consultation, you’ll receive a sketch of your cake, to help you visualise what it will look like.

Step 4

the final touches

Once all the decisions have been made and your cake design is finalised, I’ll send you a concise order confirmation for you to check and approve. The final balance for your wedding cake is due six weeks before your wedding date.

Step 5

the big day

On the morning of your wedding, I will deliver your finished cake to your venue, and will set up and style the cake table in co-ordination with your florist, wedding planner or venue co-ordinator.

The only thing you need to do is relax, raise a glass of fizz and prepare to enjoy the happiest day (and the most mouth-watering cake) of your life!

Lauren is fantastic! Not only are her cakes delicious, she is creative and takes the time to really understand what you like and don’t like! We didn’t know what style cake we wanted and she took the time to collaborate ideas and then came up with a design for us! Would recommend x”
